Study in the USA Ð Information Evening for parents and students from Yr 9-12 thinking
about sport scholarships and studying in the USA. Students need to consider
their subject selection carefully to ensure that from as early as Yr 9 they
have included the right subjects in their package to make them eligible to
study in the USA. Judy Freudenberger (who works out of the US Embassy) and up
to 11 representatives from US and Canadian universities and colleges will be at
Radford to answer your questions on Friday 14 May at 7:30pm.
The Bachelor of Biomedicine is a popular degree (ATAR
95+) this as many of the students who enrol are using as their undergraduate
degree before applying to study graduate entry Medicine at the University of
Melbourne.
Please note there is a change in the Bachelor of
Biomedicine prerequisites for 2011 entry. This change in prerequisites to
require VCE Maths/Maths Methods reflects the strong focus on experimental
design and data analysis in the first year of the Bachelor of Biomedicine. The
continued requirement of Chemistry emphasises the prerequisite knowledge
required in the quantitative sciences.
All UAC institutions
recognise performance in Year 12 subjects relevant to the course/s for
which you have applied. Some have formal bonus point schemes; while others
consider students individually.
CIT
offers Business Degrees
Canberra
Institute of Technology delivers Charles Sturt University qualifications,
including the Bachelor of Business Studies, which is a great generalist
business degree. The degree can be completed in three years of study. You can
specialise in an advanced diploma that takes two years or less depending on
what you completed at school and then compete the final year of the Bachelors
Degree right here at the CIT. This is a great alternative pathway into
University studies and will cost a lot less.
Start
preparing now for nursing!
To enrol in the CIT Diploma of Nursing
(Enrolled/Division 2 nursing) you must have at least 40 hours of referenced
personal care work. This could be demonstrated by work as an Assistant in
Nursing, volunteer work in a personal care role, work as a Disability Support
worker etc or have completed the Certificate III in Aged Care Work or
comparable program. AND an ACT Year 12 certificate (or equivalent) with at
least a C grade in tertiary English and in accredited maths or the CIT literacy
and numeracy test.
Business
workshops in May for college students.
CIT will conduct a half day workshop
which includes lunch for business students in colleges, covering
Accounting, Business and Business Administration.

Set Program will be delivered on the ANU campus on Friday, 14 May from 9am -
3pm. It includes a full day of hands on non-competitive activities & short
talks, as well as morning tea & lunch - all provided free of charge. Girls
just need to be able to make their way to & from the ANU.
The GET Set
Program is specially designed for year 11 & 12 girls interested in
engineering &/or technology (computing) as a study option & career
path. The program caters for a maximum of 60 participants only. Given this, ANU
encourages girls to register as early as possible. Samantha Bronar is happy for
girls to register with her direct via the online registration form found at: https://apollo.anu.edu.au/default.asp?pid=453
Comments from
attendees from previous years include:
ÒIt
was great to get exposed to hands on ÔrealÕ information, rather than reading
course information online. It was very helpful in determining my options.Ó
ÒThe
sessions were great, and they went for a perfect amount of time so we never got
bored or tired.Ó
ÒIt
was all really interesting, the activities were great & the presenters were
fun to work with.Ó
ÒI
really enjoyed learning about ways in which society is benefiting from
engineering.Ó
In 2009
Nicole Dodd of Radford participated in this program. She stated that it confirmed
that engineering was what she wanted to study, especially the session on
Engineers Without Borders.

Last Friday over 50 students from Yr 10-12 attended my session on
options for Yr 12 SchoolÐleavers wanting to study medicine. Students asked for
a copy of the resources I used. Click here to access the specific university websites that were
referred to in my presentation. Please bookmark these sites and
regularly check them as entry requirements are frequently up-dated or changed.
