The
following information as arrived in the Careers Room over the last week:
A
program of expert speakers has been organised for Year 10, 11 and 12 students
in a variety of areas to assist them in their career planning. Each week there is usually a
presentation in Room 50 from 1:15 - 1:45pm (bring your lunch).

So you are thinking about studying Medicine Ð on Friday 26 March
á
Mocktails in the Senior Quad Ð on Wednesday 31 March Clubstart will teach students to make ÒmocktailsÓ
and provide information on their Clubstart and Waiterstart school holiday
courses.
á
Study in the USA Ð Information Evening
for parents and students from Yr 9-12 thinking about sport scholarships and
studying in the USA. Students need to consider their subject selection
carefully to ensure that from as early as Yr 9 they have included the right
subjects in their package to make them eligible to study in the USA. A TENTATIVE date/time has been
set, subject to confirmation from Judy Freudenberger at the US Embassy for
Friday 14 May at 7:30pm, in the Pavilion. Please watch this space for updates.
Any
students from Yr 10-12 wishing to undertake work experience in the April school
holidays should see Mrs Rentsch and get the appropriate forms. Students will need to have their arrangements finalised at the by Friday
26 March (ie 2 weeks before the end of term) to allow time for processing the
associated paperwork.

There
are new arrangements for the Duntroon RMC work experience program that has now
been opened up to all school students around Australia. This means that any students
will be able to apply (but there will only be an intake of 45 students
Australia Wide per program x two per annum) by following the procedure below:

The AMC is
located in Launceston and is a specialist institute of the University of
Tasmania. They have a world-class suite of teaching and research facilities
placing them among the worldÕs 10 leading maritime training organisations.
If you are interested in a maritime career
they have a range of courses across their three national centres in
engineering, business and maritime logistics and technology, and marine
environment. They also offer a number of short courses in seafaring for
students who want a career at sea. The graduate employment rate for their
engineering students is 100%, with all other courses nearing that mark. The
maritime industry is booming and AMC students are in high demand.
AMCÕs world-class facilities include the Bluefin, a training vessel many of their
students get to gain first-hand shipping experience on the Stephen Brown, a stationary training ship, the Marine Firefighting
Centre and the Survival Centre that train and prepare students for the dangers
they may face at sea, a Ship-Handling Simulator with full-scale bridge, as well
as research facilities that students utilise including a 100 metre towing tank,
a water test basin, a cavitation tunnel and a circulating water channel.

UMAT is used specifically to assist with the
selection of students into the medicine, dentistry and health science degree
programs at undergraduate level at the universities listed on the website.
Registrations
for UMAT2010 will open online at the UMAT website in April 2010. Your complete
registration must be received at the UMAT Office at ACER no later than 5p.m.
Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) on Friday 4 June 2010.
Late registrations will be accepted up to
5p.m. AEST Friday 18 June, on payment of a late fee of AUD$55 in addition to
the registration fee. The online registration system will close at 5pm AEST on
Friday 18 June. It will NOT be possible
to register for UMAT2010 after this date.
UMAT2010
will be held on Wednesday 28 July 2010.
Talk & Walk in on Friday 9 April
and Monday 27 September 2010, 9:30am to 12 noon, with optional afternoon activities.
This is a great chance for you and your
parents to spend the day getting to know La TrobeÕs Melbourne (Bundoora)
campus, and to find out all you need to know about studying at La Trobe.
The
Commercial Arts Training College (CATC)
offers vocational education in the fields of Graphic Design, Interior Design,
and Photography. As a specialized design school, they want to excite the
creative minds of students with the options of getting a career in the creative
industry.

are also now open for the April Ôtwo-day workshopÕ program that commences on
April 15/16. These workshops are available to years 10, 11 and 12 students who
are interested in Graphic Design, Interior Design and Photography. To obtain a

Information Evening at the Rosehill Gardens Event Centre. At the evening you
will find out about studying at UWS, uni pathways, scholarships, student

Information Nights are a great way to learn more about the international
volunteering placements that Lattitude have available, and how they can support
you every step of the way. You will hear from returned volunteers, parents
of returned volunteers and Lattitude staff, and be able to ask as many questions
as you like.

Canberra
Institute of Technology is offering a GIRLS ONLY Try-A-Trade Day on
Thursday May 6 at the Fyshwick Trade Skills Centre. Participants will have the
opportunity to experience trades including plumbing, electrical, carpentry,
refrigeration and air conditioning, automotive, vehicle painting, tiling, metal
fabrication, fitting and machining, painting and decorating, plastering and
horticulture. There will also be the opportunity to talk with qualified
tradeswomen.
Last year the hugely popular event attracted approximately 200 girls,
who had the opportunity to experience the fun of trades in a hands-on, dynamic

Since
the global economic crisis, there has been significant employment contraction
in the finance sector, however this year Professional Cadetships Australia are
pleased to announce that they will again be running a cadetship program
exclusively for UBS.
UBS
Cadetships offers Year 12 students the opportunity to work for one of the

of their choice in Sydney. UBS Cadets may select from a broad range of
